The Opportunity We're seeking a financially-minded leader to join our board and guide our organization's financial health as we grow. This role combines financial stewardship with strategic thinking, helping ensure we have the resources and stability to expand our impact for animals, families, and communities worldwide. Current status: This is a volunteer role. As we scale, we envision transitioning board leadership into compensated positions. You'll Thrive Here If You - Feel genuinely called to protect animals and build compassion across communities - Bring rigor to your work while staying flexible when circumstances change - Value mission impact over personal recognition - Welcome honest feedback and offer it thoughtfully to others - Respond promptly and communicate clearly, especially in remote collaboration - Balance the gravity of animal welfare work with moments of levity and connection Your Core Responsibilities - Financial Leadership - Present clear, accurate financial updates to the full board - Guide the annual budget process and monitor organizational spending - Lead audit preparations and ensure strong financial controls - Oversee how we manage reserves and any investment activities - Offer strategic input on major financial decisions Board Governance - Participate in evaluating and supporting our Executive Director - Help navigate complex legal or ethical questions facing the organization - Ensure we remain aligned with our charitable mission and legal obligations - Act as an ambassador, opening doors to partnerships and visibility - Contribute to fundraising conversations and donor relationship building - Provide perspective on organizational strategy and long-term direction What You Bring [Essential] - Deep expertise in nonprofit finance, accounting, or financial management - Comfort analyzing budgets, financial statements, and cash flow - Understanding of nonprofit compliance, audits, and financial best practices - Commitment to animal welfare and compassionate communities - Track record of meeting commitments and following through - Clear communication style [Valuable] - Experience serving on nonprofit boards or audit committees - Familiarity with investment oversight and financial risk management - Knowledge of nonprofit tax regulations and reporting requirements - Connections within philanthropic, animal welfare, or technology sectors - Professional certifications (CPA, CFA, or similar credentials) Time Investment - Board meetings (schedule determined collaboratively) - Audit committee work and financial review time - Strategic planning sessions - Being available when time-sensitive financial matters arise What We Offer While this position is currently uncompensated, we cover reasonable expenses related to board service. More importantly, you'll play a direct role in expanding compassion education, strengthening animal sanctuaries, and building technology that amplifies the animal welfare movement.Skills requested
