Description

VegMediaWatch (VMW) is watchdog group that aims to improve the portrayal of veganism and plant-based foods in the mainstream media. Through measured social media posts, VMW holds journalists accountable by exposing anti-vegan bias. VMW also thanks journalists for portraying veganism positively by amplifying their stories. Despite the fact that engagement has been limited, at least 10 journalists have responded to the posts - editing their stories or headlines, defending their coverage, acknowledging our argument or thanking us for the accolades. This feedback demonstrates that the endeavor is having some impact on journalists, and it suggests to me that increased public engagement with the posts could amplify the impact. VMW is a volunteer grassroots endeavor. It does not have a budget or 501c3. If you have expertise in building an engaged following on social media platforms, VMW (and the animals for whom we are advocating) could use your assistance.

Our mission

Mission: VegMediaWatch is a watchdog group that aims to improve the portrayal of veganism and plant-based foods in the mainstream media by exposing anti-vegan bias and amplifying pro-vegan reporting. Where we need support: The success of this endeavor depends, in part, on community engagement. If VegMediaWatch posts on social platforms receive more engagement, then the journalists who are targeted will be more likely to take the criticism - and praise - seriously. Since the launch of VegMediaWatch in May 2025, about 10 journalists have engaged with the posts, despite the limited engagement. That demonstrates that journalists are paying attention and vulnerable to constructive criticism.
